This is for a contest being held on february in the motherland (spain) and the theme is "pirates". I tried to go in a different way that the conventional jack sparrow or angry homeless guy with a wooden leg we see most often in the movies, and tried a somewhat, common, but more distinct sci-fi, steampunk, canadian-manga kind of approach.
PSCS, this one took me quite some time to make, but I'm pleased with the result.
Don't forget to leave your comments, feedback is incredibly helpful guys, you can't imagine
The link of the contest is here [link] if you wish to apply.
UPDATE (27-09-12)
I decided I wasn't done with it, added some more fluffy clouds, redid the face, added some cartoonish feel to match the background and fixed some light problems, also made the gun more slim and stylized, hope you like it. Oh and bigger boobs, always go bigger if possible.
Thanks, I've never seen that movie or series, but I wouldn't be surprised to see many MANY other novels or series depicting this kind of imaginery, as for me is was heavily influenced by the Castle in the Sky movie by Isao Takahata (Ghibli) and all the machinery in his movies and as well as in Miyazaki's films.
Ahhh I haven't seen it myself but i've read some of the books in the series it was based off. The main difference between your picture and Edge sky pirates is that the ships fly using giant floating rocks, and that the illustrations aren't nearly as cool as yours! [link]
